SIMPLE SOLUTION
Tom: Had the same dilema a number of years ago on my old Hunter 31 when I needed to change the knotmeter. After hours of pondering one of the workers at the yard I haul at simply suggested I remove all attachment hardware (eg anything mechanical that is holding the transducer to the hull), place a piece of wood over the short barb that sticks into the hull, and give it a good whack with a hammer/mallet! Just one or two and mine fell right away from the boat...much to my surprise!I was VERY worried that it would cause some damage to the hull, but the darn thing came away totally clean. I would strongly recommend against cutting another hole in the hull (there are too many in all our boats already!). If you still really aren't "comfortable" removing the transducer, I'd recommend asking the yard to do the job. Can't cost but a few bucks for 15 minutes of work... Good Luck!Tim Leighton (S/V "Magic")
