I installed a Racor gasoline water separator, 320R-Rac-02(S3228UL) w/metal bowl, on my 27' ft Catalina Atomic-4 engine some months ago. However, I am not sure the right safety procedure to remove the separated water. And I have no idea how to check how much water has been trapped in the metal bow. Any one has the idea about the safety instructions to remove the water? Should I just unscrew the nut on the bottom of the metal bow to drain the water?

Where did you mount the separator?

Leon: I don't have the answer for you, but I am curious as to where in your boat you mounted the separator. I also have a C27 with an A4 and have been thinking about installing one. I just haven't been able to decide on a good spot for mounting.

Stop Cock Release

At the bottom of the glass bowl where you can see the sediment/water build up, their should be a small stop cock that you glently open up and allow for drainage. A paper cup or small container is sufficient to collect the junk. Do not overdrain, just several ounces to clear the debris and water.

Not quite right

Bob, Gasoline installations don't allow glass bowls, so you can't see if there is any water trapped in the filter. You are correct in that you should drain off a few ounces into a paper cup every once in a while. I used to do that once a month or so on my C30 with an A4. If you want to get fancy, you can drain those few ounces into an empty glass jar (peanut butter size?) to visually check for sediment and/or water. Just a thought.

Photo of gas/water separator

Thanks,Tom and Bob!! Paul- As seen in the attached picture, my separator is mounted onto the wall of starboard side. It is between the gas tank and carburetor. Leon

Picture-Oil

Leon: I viewed your pic and it looks like you have an oil leak that is draining under your engine...I remember from previous posts that you had the engine redone earlier in the year....just curious where the oil is coming from (I have the same problem and not sure where the oil on mine is coming from...thus the question).
