Hi Hunter Owners ...

I have a 1984 Hunter 31 ......

I want to remove the teak floor boards in the cabin, which seem to be held down with teak plugs over-top of screws

Has anyone ever lifted the floors?

Can you simply remove the plugs and unscrew the screws and lift the teak floors?

Do they come up easy (as some seem to be under cabinets and partitions) and if so, are they glued to the fiberglass, or simply screwed in place?

I am doing so as I have already fully finished the entire cabins Teak (including the easy to remove floor covers), and only the fixed teak floors are left to do .....

Any advice would be MOST appreciated ....

Thanks ...

The issues you are going to have is going to be the areas under the settees. These area are screwed down to the cabin sole. I have no idea what it would take to remove the sole in a galley area.

When we had our H'31, we had some water damage to the sole in the galley. We ended up getting a piece of Loincoin (actuallypurchased it from Catalina) and glued it down with contact cement. It has been there for about 10+ years and still looks good.

You may want to check out some of the remodel projets on the H'34's, they are very similar.

I removed the sole on my H280 this winter to refinish it. I am sure mine is smaller, but it came out in 2 pieces. They were screwed to the stringers, and the table pedestal had to be removed. Once all of the screws were out, I could not remove the pieces. I was afraid they were glued down, but after carefully prying on one edge near the bilge boards, it came loose. From there on, the rest jus lifted up.

Here is a video on the day I removed it....

And one the day I put it back in....

Hi Rvandepoll , I can only speak from my personal experience, but I removed the sole in my 1984 34 in the salon to make repairs. Yes, the floor is screwed down under those plugs in the sole. Mine was not glued down, it is just screwed to the pan. In my case, everything had to come out, All 3 settees, water heater, water tank and holding tank. After that, you can just pick an edge, and pry it up a bit, then you will be able to grab it and just lift it up. In my case it is in 2 pieces, a large port side piece and a smaller starboard piece mostly under the table. The port side piece was too large to get through the companionway door so I had to set it standing on its side in the aft cabin. I did not remove the piece in the head that extends into the Vberth, or the piece in the galley that extends into the aft cabin. Again, in my case, there are little sections under walls, cabinets or the engine compartment so that would have made it tougher to get out. I am not sure the difference in our layouts, but I think the 31 and 34 are similar. Take your time and it will come out fine. Good luck.

It will all help once I get to this project (in Mid April I assume once our snow melts)

Thanks again!

Hi Greg , I watch your video and I would like to know what kind of freshener did you order for the odor .
Thank you .

So far, I have tried a product called pure ayr. http://www.pureayre.com/products-marine.htm. It helped a lot on the cushion covers, but I have not tried it on the hull liner yet (waiting for it to warm up in Chicago).

I am also going to try a product called Orange Glo, a citrus-based wood cleaner that has been reported to help with diesel smells.
