Even though I clean the transom after every long trip, there remains a stubborn diesal smudge (mustache) on the back of the boat. Any suggestions on getting rid of this unsightly stain that seems imbedded into the white fiberglass?

Correct problem

On a previous boat (1985 H34) that problem showed up. I had the injectors rebuilt and that ended the problem. On three cylinders one injector was 80% clogged and the other two 60%. Engine ran like a top after the rebuild. Be sure you run out your engine at high rpm as often as you sail. Long runs at low speed (<1500 rpm) cause many problems with diesel engines. There could be other issues. Have a mechanic check the engine. I used cleaner/wax to remove the soot.

did it today

I used a couple cap fulls of "wisk" laundry detergent with a cup of bleach to one gallon water and used a soft scrub pad. Wiped it down with MEK. then applied 3M restorer & wax. then put on another coat of wax. a couple hours work but she looks good. My wife noticed it right away this evening.
