I have a fair amount of caulk to remove from nonskid for a rebedding project. I have hunted the archives but not hit any good answer to this problem. What is the best way to get the stuff out? Acetone doesn't seem to budge it at all, especially between the nonskid. And should acetone be used at all? Paint thinnner, goof off? What is safe to use?

Goo Gone

You might try goo-gone. I used it to remove the caulk that had solidified around my portlites when I rebedded them. If not, then try the goof-off...

Scraper?

John: When I have rebedded hardware I have used a scraper. Then I use a little acetone on a rag to clean up the spot. You never ever want to pour acetone directly on the gelcoat but a little on a rag is okay to clean up these spots. If you have something like 5200, you may want to try some Island Girl Pink (straight) or some Anti-bond. Most of the other caulking will come off with just a little elbow grease. You can also try IG Pink on any of the caulkings. It may not work as fast as some chemical solvents but you will not need to worry about damage to the gelcoat either.
