Remove 3/4 hose from seacock barbs

Getting ready to winterize the Jabsco manual toilet in a 2007 Hunter 31. Any suggestions on how to remove the inlet sea water hose from the seacock without cutting the 3/4 inch hose material. I have no excess hose to play with. Not sure if previous owner ever had this line off. Can I use a hair drier? To what Peggy Hall said in a previous post my Jabsco manual that came with the boat says to "use only ethylene glycol based anti-freeze".

I have a big pair of channel locks and I grab the hose on the barb and twist until it breaks loose.

Go to Pep Boys and look for a radiator hose removal tool. It looks like a thick ice pick with a 120 degree bend on the end. Mine has a black handle with an orange end cap. Being careful to not pierce the hose, wedge it between the hose and the fitting and work it around the diameter to break the seal. Works much better than heat and no need to get out the extension cord.
It took me years to find one. Sometimes they are in stock, most times they are not. Now its the only tool I do not lend.

it depends on what kind of hose it is, and how old it is... cutting may be the only solution in a tight space. such as an old dry rubber hose or the white pvc "junk"...
if it is a rubber hose that is still resilient enough to stretch a bit, the best way is to try and lift the edge of it with a screwdriver or the radiator hose tool... then spray a bit of wd40 under it.... as you turn and work the hose it will lubricate it enough so that it can be pulled off the barb.

I use a small section of hose with electrical tape to create a seal. I plug it into the through hull from the outside, place a bottle of PG on a step ladder and pump it through. I never removed the hose before.

Jabsco heads use neoprene internal parts, which react very badly to PG. I've done the side-by-side testing. A Jasco engineer confirmed this. They are unaffected by EG. Just don't drink the blackwater!

Raritan uses nitrile parts, so this is not a factor (PG and EG are OK).

Be warned that many clear freshwater strainers cannot handle PG in the long term; they craze. Remove after winterizing and leave off.

I've never used this, but if Pep Boys doesn't have it, Amazon has similar tools. This one got 4.5 stars.
