Remove 1984 First 42 Rudder shaft ?

Anyone have experience dropping the rudder on a 83-84 First 42 ?
Appears there is an upper "collar" threaded onto the rudder stock.
Once pin is removed.. ? how to unscrew this huge collar ?

As an educated guess, I would start with a thorough soaking of the threaded area with PB Blaster or something similar. Then a spanner type wrench with a lug on the tip that would fit the pin hole. Once the threads are free, there should not be a huge amount of torque on the nut.
If you are uncertain as to what I mean by a spanner wrench, google it for an illustration.
