I have finished re-coring my entire deck and started to remove the sole on my s2 8.0c. I was amazed what was under it. (see pictures) The plywood has rotted but the stringers (not sure if that is the right term) look good. My plan is to fill the voids under the sole with 2# Polyurethane Pour Foam. I think this will give me 3 important improvements. 1.) water will have no place to enter and stay. 2.) more solid floor. 3.) add a little buoyancy. I plan on making a sandwiched panel for the floor using ½” AC plywood sandwiched between 2 layers of fiberglass on both top and bottom. My original plan was to put an access door in the sole, but with so little space under the sole (Max 4” or so) I don’t see a need. This is why I plan on the Polyurethane Pour Foam. I unbolted the engine and plan to remove it this weekend and remove the remainder of the sole. I decided to replace everything. Comments and suggestions are welcomed.
Side note: I have come across a Universal 14hp diesel out of an 85 Catalina and am 90% sure I will install it in place of my Atomic 4 gas engine. The Universal is in good shape, but since it is out, I will have it tore down and replace what needs replaced. (never worked on a diesel before, but have a friend who has and he said he will do it for me) Any thoughts or suggestions on the engine switch? I will have to buy a transmission and started for the diesel. I think I will sell the Atomic 4.
I will add more pictures and the project goes.
