I will haul my boat this summer for various reasons. By then the anode on the Yanmar SD25 saildrive will need to be replaced. The information in the SD25 manual isn't very specific. Is the original anode a split ring so that I can remove it without removing the propeller? That makes sense, but that is not what manufacturers always do.

BTW, here in the Chesapeake Bay the advice (from boat dealers) is to use an aluminum anode.

You will be able to tell whether it is a split ring zinc by removing the marine growth around it. This should expose a small gap in the ring - about 2mm). If it is a one piece ring you could try to carefully cut the ring with a Dremel tool or so and replace it with a split ring.
BTW, there is also an internal zinc in the SD25, which is can be accessed from the port side of the engine bay (check manual). Normally this zinc wears very slowly. I replace it every 2-4 years.
