Removable Teak Companionway Hatch Strip?

Removed mine last weekend for cleaning and oiling. 4 screws under the lexan. No adhesive, but there is a bit of silicon caulk around each screw.

Easy Job
I removed mine last year, as mentioned just a couple of screws. Mine was gray and worn, the previous owner never took care of the exterior trim. I refinished the piece with Minwax Helmsman Spar Urethane. I did the two part teak cleaner from West Marine, Sanded down and 3 coats with a light sand in between. Took the time to do the hatch boards also. They still looks as good as the day they were finished. I am about ready to redo the stern rail seats. J. R. Setser S/V Lifetimestoo 1998 Hunter 26

Caution
When reassembling the teak strip to your lexan slider there are a couple of cautions worth passing on: Be sure the bottom side of the teak trim has all of the old silicon removed and is flat and true. Put a very small dab of silicon around each screw hole, you don't need much. Do not tighten the screws beyond the point where the trim is pulled down to the lexan or you will crack the lexan.

Companionway Teak
Hi Bob, I don't know what the companion way teak is like on the 260 but on our 23 we put silicone under it or else it would leak if any water pooled up on it. We found this out while sleeping aboard in a rainstorm at about 2:AM. If yours isn't like this please disregard. Rob Morton

Orginal finish
Rob Do you know what was the orginal coating on the exterior teak? I believe it was a clear satin ,about 50 gloss .

Original finish?
I don't know what the original finish was. Some have said it was some kind of oil that hunter puts on. When we got ours it was totally gray! Sorry about no info. Rob Morton

Most all the teak on Hunter sailboats comes from East Teak Trading in Donalds, SC. A few years back, I talked with them about what to finish teak with and they said they didn't know what was best. all they do is cut the stuff for most of the boats made in the US.
