I might have posted this before but if anyone would like a remote control switch for their windless you can buy them for $10 on eBay. Just go to eBay and search for a Jeep winch remote. Free shipping as well. They work great and are easy to install.

Windless

It gets installed on the relay trans former next to the windless up in the vee berth and was easy but the hardest part taking the wood panel of the vee berth.

A few words of caution

I might have posted this before but if anyone would like a remote control switch for their windless you can buy them for $10 on eBay. Just go to eBay and search for a Jeep winch remote. Free shipping as well. They work great and are easy to install.
Here is a photo of a recommended remote from ebay
The reason I like this type, is because it has an on/off switch.
I strongly suggest you get a model with an on/off switch, and put a piece of electrical tape on the switch so that it can't be accidentally turned on.
Here is my concern. These remotes typically are left in the chart table or drawer. If the button is accidentally pushed by something resting on it, this could seriously damage your windlass by driving it upwards while it is already all the way up.
Or, you're out sailing one day, and your anchor starts to deploy, because a can of beans in the same drawer has rolled over onto the switch.
Next thing....
Some of these remotes have a short delay. In that. I mean there is a time period from when you release the switch to when the receiver turns off its relay
For this reason, don't run your anchor all the way up to the "home" position with the remote. Stop at 6 inches, and use your foot switches to jog it to the final "up"
You just don't want to damage your motor by running the windlass with the anchor fully up.

Model

I guess I was lucky and got a nice remote a few years ago and it is blue with a blue rubber water proof cover and a strap that holds it around my neck while up at the windless ,has a 9volt battery in it and the remote part that gets mounted up at the windless has a short wire for the wireless signal.
Been working great for when I have my wife deploy the anchor and I do the retrieving because my chain needs help from me to drop down in to the anchor locker but this remote really helps me to have a free hand to keep my chain from bunching up and than jamming.
Best cheapest thing ever for our boat.

I ordered one for the same reason Seadaddler has one and thanks for the heads up Artboas. We always turn the windlass breaker off between anchorings anyway.

Seadaddler- I am interested in your procedure- I also purchased the same unit as you off Ebay, but I haven't yet fitted it- I have the same problem of the chain bunching as it comes off the gypsie as there is insufficient fall for the chain into the locker. I would have thought , using the foot switch you have both hands free, while using the remote you only have one hand free??? Just interested in how you retrieve your anchor please as having my hands near the chain and gypsie is pretty scary!! I like my fingers!

Remote

Yes foot allows 2 free hands But too far back to use hand to lift chain more into anchor locker, the remote allows me more forward position over windless easy to kneel closer to windless leaning over it to allow with remote hanging with strap from my neck and I have my one hand lifting chain as it comes out of windless into locker and also have anchor wash hose ready to wash off mud.
I do make sure I keep my hands away from windless(after a friend got fingers in windlass very bad for him) so I am very careful keeping hands free and I usually raise the anchor slowly and do it rather than anyone else and been doing it a few years
