I have a rather old Garmin GPS11 which that I use in conjunction with Fugawi map software and it does a great job. I would like now to install a fixed remote antenna. Does anyone have any advice on makes and best location on a 33.5

Location to Minimize Movement

With regard to location, the external antenna is generally recommended to be in a location with access to the signals and where there is a minimum of sway movement. This is probably on the stern rail nearest the centerline of the boat, say, near the swim step. Since the signal is sensitive to water between the antenna and the satelite it shouldn't be down below as when it rains the signal will be much weaker and the reciever can have inadequate signal to determine the location.

Colin, I saw one at West Marine's site last week for a good price, like $200. I think it was in the closeout section. I was looking for myself for a backup but didn't want to do the investigative work to see if it was compatible. good luck Mike D
