Has anyone with a 1981 to 1987 Catalina 27 with a Universal diesel engine installed a remote oil filter kit? If so, what model or manufacturer did you use?
Thanks.

You just need to find a take-off and then they are easy to plumb. Best to find a take off that fits a cross reference to your factory filter. A lot of Universals can also use the Fram PH3593A /TG3593A or a Wix 51334 so look for takes offs that match that. You don't need "billet" take off though that is what you will find most of... I have an article I need to get to writing on this subject.....

I generally prefer to use a different and larger oil filter on the remote head that matches the minimum specs of the on-engine filter. It takes research but can be done for under $70.00 vs. $800.00 for the factory kit.......

almost any engine can be fitted with a remote filter "kit".... it consists of a device that screws onto the existing filter base.... then it has lines that screw into it that go the the new remotly mounted filterbase...

and you can usually spec out the kit (or exchange the remote base) to take a different filter than the original was.. for larger capacity or whatever other reason you want.

just make sure its spec'd out the same for microns and anti-drainback valves

any filter jobber should be able to help you or point you in the right direction to where you can purchase kits, although the specific engine manufacture or whoever took the engine and marinized it, may have kits readily available.

The 'secret' with any remote location lube oil filter is LARGE sized connection lines and the 'least amount' of 'elbows', 'transitions', etc. - all to keep the pressure losses at a bare minimum so that the same amount of oil is still RAPIDLY recirculating through the filter.

Maine, the billet parts are usually oh so pretty though. Then you gotta get braided lines, and anodized fittings, and we all know where this ends......
