Ok, I have ordered my remote control for my motor -- will be in some time this week. I would love to have your opinions on where to put it on a 26. There isn't a good spot as near as I can tell. But there are better and worst spots, I guess. Thanks!

Vertical mount on sternrail

Michael, I mounted a Morse single lever remote control on the vertical sterm rail support next to tbe motor. I had to construct a mounting box out of sheet metal, which I rustproofed and painted white. It is attached to the support with stainless hose clamps. This arrangement works very well and does not interfere with raising or lowering the motor. It took some engineering to get it right, but it was definitely worth the effort. Don S/V Anodyne

crazy dave

good suggestion

I installed them on the wall coming up from the cockpit floor starboard side that is across from the fuel locker or the one that is curved. I run the wires and cables so they come out directly behind it. I do not suggest the stern rail mounting.

Any reason

Any reason for not going with the stern rail? And if you do it the way you said, is there any issue with your feet hitting it? Thanks.

Any reason...

Not sure if you're asking me or Dave, but I like the siderail location because it allows me to "keep my eyes on the road," sitting in the starboard sternrail seat with a good view forward and over the cabin top. With a tiller extension and a single-handle remote, I can control F-R and speed with my right hand, and steer with my left. The other locations I considered would either require looking down or back when moving forward, or would not be easily reachable from the sternrail seat. I've had no issues with bumping into the remote, with feet or anything else. The only possible downside would be when heeling hard to starboard, it would be awkward sitting on the low side; but hard heeling usually occurs while sailing, not while motoring. I decided against a location near the motorwell partly because I hope to link the motor and tiller someday, and didn't want to chance obstructing the movement of the motorhead. I also let the control cables "loop" in the motorwell so they won't restrict movement when I get around to the other project.

Thanks

I guess I was asking Dave, but a good answer is a good answer as far as I am concerned.
