I noticed the anchor locker renovation projects of Morrie Frappier, Ed Schenck and Scott Wilson on the Hunter Owners forum. I am renovating my Hunter 37 cutter, which currently has the factory built elevated/suspended chain locker. I would like to put a windlass in the that locker and the run a hawse pipe to the lower forward lazarette (as you all have done), where I plan to place the chain rode. I have some concerns; 1) does the hull need to padded with plywood (or something) to prevent hull damage from the chain; 2) does the hull have sufficient strength support 250’ feet of chain when going into a large stormy chop; and, 3) how do you drain the lower lazerette where the chain is stored? Thanks for you help … tj edwards

Even the best

Even the best boats have chain kink problems. I sailed on a Swan that carried a 24' piece of straight iron for the sole purpose of poking down in the chain locker and making the chain lay down and make room for more,
