Relocate batteries

A lot of information has been exchanged on relocating batteries in Hunter 34s. Our 34 is a 1984 model and it looks possible to relocate the batteries from the old aft basement area to the aft port cabin, specifically in the lower part of the hanging locker area just aft of the bulkhead. This is relatively close to the engine and would provide ease of access. Also may help mitigate the starboard tilt. It is a given that they would be properly secured. Is there any safety problem in putting one above the other? Could also follow hull shape and step the top one further from the centre line. Have read about putting them under the port settee but would rather keep them close to the engine so do not see this as a preferred option.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Dave and Nan,
I have an '86 H34. The PO had the batteries aft in the quarterberth. They were very difficult to service. I moved them to the ditch, or footwell, in the quarterberth, and it works pretty well. Now, I only use the quarterberth for storage, so that 'stateroom' is really just a garage now. I doubt that your Batts will fit in the hanging locker.

I have one in the engine bay for engine starting only and 3 domestic batteries mounted in the main cabin under the port side berth next to the water tank.

Battery Location Alternative...

D & N: Others have located their batteries under the sink area or under the aft dinette seat. Mine have stayed where they originally are because I have an AC unit and duct work under the dinette seat/sink area. Servicing them is only done at about mid-season and at year end--always before a meal

What ever you decide, try to keep the battery cable runs as short as possible or you will end up needing very heavy duty cabling for the amperage load if they are located a distance from the engine bay.
