Can anyone tell me where the relay is that would provide power to my windlass and my steaming light. Neither of these worked last summer, my first year with the boat, a 2000 36CC, and all indications on the wiring schematic (poor) are pointing to a relay somewhere in the circuit. I understand that the engine needs to be running for these two circuits to operate. I have been all over the engine compartment trying to trace wires and loctae this relay but i've been unsuccesful. With the boat laid up for the season, its time to start searching again.

The steaming light failure has nothing to do with the relay for,the windlass. It should be on its own circuit. Most likely cause of that failure is either a burned out bulb or corroded contacts. To find the relay for the windlass, chase down the wires from the push button. You should be able to find the relay somewhere near the windlass with a heavy gauge wire connected to two of the contacts on the relay. Push button simply actuated the relay.

Our windlass is wired through two breakers, one for the controller and one for the motor. The one for the controller is low amperage and is wired through the breaker box with all of the other 12 volt system breakers. The one for the windlass is mounted near the battery switches. This breaker has a toggle rather than a button to reset the breaker.
