Help, I own a 1994 40.5 and I have a problem with no apparent solution! I have been seeing a persitat leak coming from under my refrig in the galley, it has saturated my teak that forms the cabinate under the main refrig section. I assume it is the result to the drain at the base of the compartment but I cannot remove the fitting to look below and check the connection, clearly there is a tube that connects to the plastic fitting and then carrys the water to the bilge, I can see no way to look under the cabinate and if I cannot remove the fitting I can't replace the connection or caulk it owr whatever? Anyone dealt with this prior? I look forward to reading the responses.

Alternative

The only alternative I can think of is to permanently block the refir drain. I do that frequently when defrosing with some sail tape which holds up well in water. Of course, that doesn't fix the saturated wood problem. My question is if the wood is already saturated and likely to delaminate, why not gain access directly at the source of the leak - if the panel is that bad, why not just remove/replace it and in so doing, have ready access to the drain? Or,

It could be condensation from the outside of the hidden insulation near the outer hull. Mine has done that. The cure, and I haven't finished it, is to caulk to prevent humid air from access to the hidden insulation. Hope that helps. It's just a guess. I haven't applied the 'cure' yet.

I have had this happen to me once in five years. It was after I defrosted the Frig and Freezer for a while. I think the insulation... probably around the freezer... also defrosts. Anyhow, once everything was back on and working full-time, all was well. I pulled up the floor in that area, took it home, dried it out and refinished it. OK now. Rick D.

Some thoughts

First, I posted last summer a permanent fix for how to get your bilge to stop smelling because the fridge and freezer drain directly to it. After a whole summer of cruising, I can't believe the change in this boat. I would spent hours a week flushing and deordorizing, and now it's perfect. So I've spent a lot of time playing with the drain hose.. so to speak. I believe the plastic fitting may have cracked, which would be most difficult to access without pulling out that floor section. As this part of the floor was put down prior to dropping in the galley, this is a major job. If I was stuck with this job, and knowing for sure the drain fitting needed to be replaced I might just think of installing a new one. I think the best way would be to "dremel" the old one out from the top, pull on the hose, (under the sink), and then re-install a new one from the top down, less backing nut. Affixing it with 5200 may work. The guy at Hunter who would give some final advice is Eddie Breeden. Once you're all done, rework the drain accoring to my prior post; you won't regret it.
