Why dont more of you active 'posters' register with this site? It sure would be nice to know that when someone posts a new topic or replys to a post, what size boat they have and where they mostly sail. Tony B

Yes you do, Jack

Look at the top of any menu, or the any topic. You should bee a link that says Welcome _______(name)! If not, click the link that says Log in and either log in or register. To create an avatar, go to your Forum Settings. The link is in the same place. Putting your info in the owner directory does not create a forum registration.

Jackhartjr...no you dont

I couldnt find you on the sailboatowners "Owners Directory". Are you registered on a different site? Do you 'log in' when you enter this site? Anthony Robert, LOL

Tony, I've been asking this for years

and it's really simple to do. I've also learned that some people just don't want to enter more information than they are comfortable sharing. I know, it's basic stuff, but that's different strokes for different folks territory. Still drives me a bit crazy (some would say crazier than I already am!), but the boat, size, type and location sure would help in answering questions and not having to keep asking. But, we persevere...anyway, it's nice being able to help.

Phil Herring.....????????

If he is registered, doesnt that mean I could look him up in the Owners Directory? I'm confused, I thought registering was part of the Owners Directory. Please explain...Thanks Tony B

Forum registration is separate

from the Owner Directory. Forum registration must be done from the forums; the forums and the Owner Direcotry are not connected. Lame, I know, but that's the way it is for now. If you use the Login link from any forum page you coan't go wrong.

registering

...my understanding is that registering requires nothing more than a valid e-mail address for the website administrator's benefit. Any other information is optional, or at least not verified, so you can put just about anything there. Some of this info appears when you post, but it is nothing invasive or sensitive. In fact, none of the information you submit should be invasive or sensitive. You need to have a valid e-mail address to log in, thus if you're spamming the webmaster can report you, block you or even better.... FLAME YOU!! BTW a POX on SPAMMERS... does anyone ever buy anything from these guys? Only forum members have access to the owner directory. E-mailing between owners is privately maintained so a spammer could not execute a mass mailing to our group or capture our addresses. Since we have a concientious webmaster I think we're pretty secure.

My next question...OWNER DIRECTORY ?????

How come more people on here dont register on the OWNER DIRECTORY? It only takes about 5 mins and then others would know what and where you sail.

Phil Herring, very subtle photo.

I just realized the significance of the photo related to your ID to the left of your reply. Lest any of us forget, you are the webmaster. WHO wants to disagree with a battleship. Thanks for the site. Steve Kamp H 38 Carolina

Once more I say; Why register?

For them’s that haven’t; This site has one of easiest registry systems I’ve encountered in a long time. Once you are registered, you’ve got great access and you will not get mail bombed by the site. We’re talking about the welfare of your boat here, so by extension, the welfare and safety of you and your family. This site is a huge base of collective knowledge and experience no matter how weird or unusual the problem or situation. So just do it. That minute or 2 it takes may save your weekend ….. or your life. Ferg PS: IT'S FREE, WHAT MORE DO WANT, SITE ADMIN TO COME OVER AND DO IT FOR YOU?!?!

Registration good, no registration bad

I would recommend registration to everyone. I have recieved a @%!$ load of useful information from the forum, bought some great and fair priced items from the classifieds and I love just surfing the site for info., humor or history. Even when things get heated sometime!! The Owner's Directory is interesting too!!

gpd and Ferg....now if only .....

If only we could persuade everyone to fill out the info in the "owners directory". An example why would be a recent post..on how to remove his without a crane. He didnt say what kind of boat he has, the size of mast or any other info other than his question. Had he listed in the 'owners directory' others could have been more help.

Phil, agreed.

Now that you can click on the registered name, you can read their previous responses. Not that I am alway happy with the judgemental posts that I have posted, but you can actually read and get a sense of whom you are dealing with. Thanks again Phil for your faithfulness. To everyone else, when shopping online, remember this place. Scroll up and click on "Chandlery". You may be suprised as to what is available. It helps keep this forum here. r.w.landau
