Getting a Hunter 260 this spring. Interested if anyone has any info about registering the boat in Rhode Island to take advantage of their tax exemption on marine articles (including boats). What docs are necessary? Since boat is trailerable, how will we show/prove that boat is in Rhode Island?

good question

In North Carolina, Maryland and Virginia that I know of, if the boat stays for a certain length of time, then you are considered in essesnce a resident. North Carolina and Virginia, the marinas do turn in all the boats at the dock to local county/city as required by law. I believe MD does not have personal property tax on baots but do sure tax the heck out of you when purchasing the b oat. I would tend to think what you are trying to do could cause you grief by the state where you live. The trailer would be registered in the locality you live so forget that. As for the boat, where you plan to keep it most of the time is where it would be registered. I am not going to advise on this but I would not do what you are thinking Crazy Dave
