Just another plug for the Beta--I did it myself and it went very well.
Many on this group, Steve and others, have experience with the Beta
and we're all satisfied customers. If in the UK Steve Birch can help,
if in the US, Stanley Feigenbaum sales@... is very helpful.

Hi Paul, We had a problem with our Yanmar that was due to a buildup of
sludge in the mixing elbow. Try taking the 90 degree fitting off where the
hose from the heat exchanger connects to the elbow. If it is clean then
thats not the problem, If clogged take the whole elbow off. It comes apart
with difficulty into two parts, I used muratic acid to dissolve the salt and
other stuff that had accumulated there. When put back together everything
worked fine. Was it the the mechnic who will do the instalation that told
you it had internal damage? Get a second opion! I don't think Towing your
anchor would do anything but slow you down abit. walt

Paul ,
I didn´t have the new engine a year when the raw water pump went and allowed sea water in the engine. What a mess (peanut butter instead of oil in the engine). Flushed the engine numerous times. It occured again in the Bahamas, and I had to fly back to Florida for a replacement. Same drill (flushing), the third time it occured, I finally had to have the engine overhauled due to hard starting. then the fresh water cooling exchanger rusted through, and had to be replaced, and Westerbeke changed the style of exchanger, and it cost a little bundle. To this day I have starting problems, She rarely starts right off. The kill lever to stop the engine froze years ago and won´t budge, so I have to kill the engine by cutting off the fuel, which sometimes takes a minute or so before she actually dies. Frank,

Interested for more info on your dissatisfaction with your Westerbeke. I
haven\'t finalized the installation yet.

Trev,

I've been trying to get my hands on the pre-2001 Vega Newsletters and the VODCA newsletters that preceded them so I can scan them and make them available on the American Vega web site. If you, or anyone else out there, has a complete set, I'd be happy to pay for shipping and return the originals after I've scanned them.

Where I work, we have a copier that spits out pdf files and emails them to you at your desk computer. It's great! Just like a copy machine except no paper. Maybe your local copy shop has the same feature.
