refrigerator replacement

I have a 1988 legend 37.5
the refrigerator (ice box) system is no longer getting cold.
It may only need freon or it may be the compressor is completely kaput.
probably the latter since the first issue would be much cheaper to rectify

I am thinking of cutting it out of the counter and replacing it with a small marine fridge.

Has anyone done this and if so, what issues am i facing?

Without knowing brand and voltage of compressor it is hard to answer question repair or replace. If compressor runs without cooling it could be expensive to repair. If compressor will not run it might be a simple repair you could do yourself.

Why

Why cut it out if it needs tto be replaced and just replace the cold plate and compressor part would be very easy.
Not sure what you mean by marine ref,are you talking front open door ref.

does the compressor run at all?
is it air or water cooled?
if water is the water cooling pump running?
if the pump and compressor are running is there any cooling at all going on?
Is the thermostat able to turn on and off the unit?
