Call me crazy but I could swear that when I first got my 356 and checked the refrigerator that the little fan between the fridge and the freezer blew INTO the Fridge section.Can someone set me straight?The reason I am asking is because the fan is blowing into the freezer section from the fridge and anything on that shelf in the freezer does not freeze.

The fan should blow from the freezer into the fridge. Is it possible the wire got knocked off and somehow the polarity got reversed? There may be a thermostat that controls the fan, so start from the fan and work backwards to see if somehow the wires got reversed.

Freezer Fan
On my 410 the fan blew from the Refrigerator into the freezer. My problem was excessive frost on the freezer coil where the air from the refer hit it. This orientation was confirmed to be correct by Kollmann Marine www.kollmann-marine.com/ I reversed the fan direction to blow into the refrigerator. Although may not be "correct", works better and keeps refer colder. Bryce

Paul, This has got me thinking. I have a LOT of frost build-up in the freezer and just attributed it to poor seals. However, now that you bring this up, I recall that my refrigerator is colder than the freezer. I don't know that this means, but I'm heading down to the boat for my daily bonding session with the ole girl, and will promptly investigate. Thanks for bringing this up! Do you have
evaporators or cold plates in both the refer and freezer sides? If not, it seems that the fan would have to blow from the one with the evap/plate into the other in order to keep the latter side cool. OTOH, if you have 2 evap/plates then why need a fan at all?

The Freezer
The freezer is the only side that has an evaporator.That is why I think the fan should blow into the fridge side.It should suck some of the cold air from the freezer side and blow it into the fridge. I could swear that is how it was working.I did not do anything to any 12v systems and thats why this is weird.

My 356 is frig to freezer
Paul, I was just on my 356 to check some things so I tested the fan. It blows from the frig to the freezer. Seems strange but it is at the top of the frig so I guess that it is pushing cold air from the freezer to the bottom of the frig somewhere.

I just thought of something
Tom just reminded me. There is a 2" round hole in the bottom that goes from the freezer to the refrig. Maybe this is how it is supposed to work; fan blows into the freezer from the refrig forcing the air back through the bottom hole to the refrig.??? John Richard

Despite the thermostat (which probably was the real cause), our ice melted and the milk froze, so we turned off the fan and cranked the cold down on the freezer. It runs almost constantly now, but the freezer holds cold ice, and keeps the ice cream hard, and the refrig is about 40 degrees. We also added some more rubber seal strips. Al

Our also blows from the fridge to the freezer-the hole lower down is supposed to return cold air to the fridge-I didn't believe it either, so I turned the fan around and the fridge got much colder-what I needed!

The temp in the freezer was 41 and inside the refrig was 35. I don't have an answer for these readings. Both knobs were set mid way on their scales. Anyway, I reversed the fan. Today, I'm going to Home Depot to pick up some foam tape to put an additional seal on the freezer. My main complaint has always been the quick and thick build up of frost, so hopefully this might solve the problem. John Richard

It seems to me when the boat is being built the person that is installing the fan he most likely does not know which way its going to rotate. my 410 the freezer is at 8 degrees and the fridge is at 38 d. it blows from the freezer to the fridge, works great.

Check for cracks in freezer section
Suspect the idea behind the fan direction is to pull hot air over the thermostat that controls the fan. In any event on my brand new! P420, there was a large hole in freezer section where coolant line passed. Make sure that is plugged or covered. Then check all around the freezer at the inside top corners. My boat has a 1/4" gap on the outboard side; also, might need some plugging. On the fridge side, the drain on my boat goes to a sump pump. The cold air actually "falls out" of that hole allowing warmer, humid air to enter the freezer side (because of gaps/holes). This may be the cause of the ice build-up which is pretty significant on my boat. I'm in process of sealing everything. When I got the boat, the drain hole was plugged with a stopper. Don't know if Hunter was telling me something or it just ended up there in manufacturing.
