refrigeration question

Ok,
so this Oakland Strickly Sailing show is generating so many questions.
We want refrigeration for our 3576. But of course the show is offering several choices [with decent show discounts]. I am a self installer so that part is easy. But we are seeing versions from $800 to 2500. There are just 2 of us on the boat most times so we think a good basic unit that draws the least power, runs the most quite and does the job for refrigeration only [don't need freezer]. Any free education from any of you would be great.

Look at the Adler Barbour cold machine running on 12 years now..... Trouble once with bad shradder valves and a local slacker service company trying to milk it... Fired there ass and made sure to tell all my friends!
Got my dad on the case with help from one of his lodge brothers who is a a/c tech.... They dialed it in to -14 degrees. That was about 10 years ago. Keeps the blue bell and nice and hard!!
It is a 12volt model runs off continuous regulated 12v power supply at dock and house batteries when sailing.

Our Adler-Barbour is well over twenty some years old and never missed a beat.....Once it was set to cold and iced up the soda.

Iso-therm SP. They use a thru hull fitting that is sort of like a keel cooler. This just replaces the existing thru hull for the galley sink drain. There is no fan the compressor pumps coolant thru the cooler. Extremely quiet. We have only ours for 6 years, but we are extremely happy with it.

All of the major mfg use the Danfoss 35 or 50 compressors so the major difference is in their electronics and installation. We ended up with a model 2553.

Woody: I assume that is what you have on your boat! The reason I purchsed mine is because my friend Steve Weinstein had one of these units on his H'33 (Cherubini). He kept it running 24x7 on solar panels.

The down side of most of the units on the market is that they generate a lot of heat to the interior of the boat (depending on placement). This is not good during warmer weather. When we open the compartment where the compressor is located it is just slightly warm. We never turn our unit off. It runs 24 x 7 x 365.

Our Adler Barbour is over 15 years old. We have just crossed Florida from West coast to east via Lake O and it is hot - mid 80's and we are still making ice.
