Barry, please explain 'the same principal'.
I've never seen that 'principal' on my system. Of course it's water cooled, hold over plate for the refer, separate system and plate for the freezer and separate air conditioner, all running from the engine driven compressor, SO I may not see the principal you speak of manifest itself. When my system is low on charge, it shows up in the sight-glass and with a lack of frost on the suction lines and plates. And dynamically on the built-in pressure gages. Did I mention that I built it? And I don't spend a lot of time with guys that know about this stuff anymore because I service my own system. I'm certified and buy my own gas. Did I mention that I have my own company? But that sure as hell doesn't make me an expert. Maybe Richard Kollmann is watching.Additionally my home A/C system is Geothermal. No external condenser and fan. I didn't build the sled though. I just installed it. I'm on my second one. Wore out the first. It's slick. Heats the house, the hot tub and our domestic hot water. Did I mention that the heat's free? And that it's A/C too? I can take some snaps. Anybody interested?

Oh, without that external condenser, I still don't see your 'principal'. Low gas=no frost. But I am aware of HeatPump outdoor radiators freezing up. But that's just because they're working perfectly. To clear the frost, reverse 'em. Please explain.
