Refrigeration issues

On my 1990 Vision 32, I have a Danfoss BD2.5 compressor running R12 with some cooling issues. The compressor runs, I get a little frost on the line leading into the evaporator, but no frost forming on the evaporator and no noticeable change in temp in the box. Any ideas on what I could do? (Other than calling a tech and dropping another boat buck on the issue!) I've done some research (kollmann-marine.com) but this topic seems a little more involved than other boat systems.
Thanks, Jim

Look for kinks in the lines or other obvious faults between the compressor and the evaporator.

If, as you've said, you've read Kollmann, you will recall that 99% of al refrigeration problems are ELECTRICAL. :D

I also had a module issue with my 1986 system. Rparts has the new module for me in 2016.

Happy troubleshooting.

Send an email to Richard Kollmann. He has been very responsive to individual questions. He may be able from your description and symptoms to tell you the most likely fault.

As a quick update, I contacted Richard Kollmann and he recommend I add 4oz of freon to the system. After a little Craigslist hunting I found a hose fitting and a can of R12. Added the freon and it works like a champ now! I've heard that the systems don't like sitting without being used for long periods and they are more prone to small leaks. I suspect this is what happened to my system.

We got so tired of wasting money on totally ignorant, parts changing refer techs that we bought a set of gauges and do all but the vacuuming and soldering ourselves. These systems are dead easy, once you have the gauges, some gas and a bit of dish soap. Bet we could set up shop anywhere and make a damn good living just being honest and reasonably priced.
