I am thinking of converting my ice box in my Vision 32 to a fridge. Does anyone out there have any experience or recommendations on how to convert and where I can purchase components to complete an install?? Thanks, Wolftack

We have two AB cold machines on...
our boat; one is the fridge the other the freezer. I run them 24/7. These are 15 year old units and I replaced the fridge control module two years ago and recharged the freezer four years ago. I'm very happy with their performance and AB support. Terry

I have an alder barbour
I installed an alder barbour in my hunter 31. It actually the smallest one they make and it keeps my fridge icy cold. I have to be careful not to turn it down too low or it will freeze everything in it. There is a post in the photo forum under hunter 31. It was very easy to install myself and was about $600.00. this link is for the evaporator I used. http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product/10001/-1/10001/61999/10001/602/230/15 The other one is for the condenser. jim

A Cheap Way
The A-B or a similar unit is the right way to go, but if you want refrigeration for about $25, buy a used dorm sized refrigerator, take it apart, keeping all the refrigerant lines intact, cut a hole in the ice box big enough to accept the evaporator, mount the compressor nearby and plug it in - shore power at the dock and invertor at sea. I did this a couple of years ago and it works great. Can keep frozen food for days where the ice trays would go, and can freeze everything if I'm not careful.
