I have decided to get rid of the Adler barbour and go with a Evakool product. This will involve cuuting the existing icebox out of the galley. Has anyone ever done this? Are there any structual conciderations to think about?

Ask Gene.

While you are waiting for Gene Gruender to answer you can study his "Tore out the galley" at the Related Link. You could also e-mail him from the Owner's Directory. I have worked all around and in the icebox. Just replaced an old coldplate 110 volt unit with a new A/B 12v unit. I cannot think of anything about the galley and icebox that would affect structural soundness. But if it were me I would not let it stop me from ripping. Just note what looks structural and reinforce that area when you rebuild. You will probably end up with something much stronger. Is it your plan to build in the box with the top level with the counter? I think that you will want to duct cabin air into the inlet. I really like the idea. I just do not have the time. How does the Aussie price compare to the U.S. price? http://www.ozfish.com/evakool/supakool.htm#specifications

none at all

I gutted mine to the hull. No structural at all. I made an entirely new box with 6" all around and 4" on top. The link has most of what I know, but if you have more questions, feel free to ask. Austinsailor at cs.com

Thanks

Thanks for the info. The reason I am wanting to do this is to make my refridgeration more efficient. I think I found the right product to due this with.
