I'm in the market as were . Colonial Beach
Who has installed a refridgeration unit on their boat? How much did it cost and how hard was it? What did you do about battery config?

I have a dual Group 27 housebank and I have a Group 24 battery as my spare. If I did the refridgeration I think that I would add a third battery to prevent myself from having a lot of strain on the system.

The job itself doesn't look too bad. I am just kicking this around right now because I am tired of lugging ice around when I get out on my long cruises and it would be a lot more convenient.

Not sure if I will do it yet....Cost is the key.

I will get my wife to tell me everything she has learned about it. I think you are looking at around 700-1K for it all and it takes some fiber glass work as well.

My 85 came with it, I wouldn't be without it, ever. It is just a small unit that has a small mini fridge type freezer compartment, metal box type of thing, and it will keep burger and stuff frozen no problem. I have 2 house batteries and one diesel starter battery(isolated of course) and with a little care I have never had it drain them. If we are going for more than 2 or 3 nights I will put a block of ice in there too, just to help.
We keep it full of frozen stuff, to help it hold itself better. We still use a cooler for beer, so the food holds just fine. We have a slip so the shore power takes care of everything the rest of the time. The unit is strictly 12v. but the built in charger handles the rest.
