Our new (older) boat came with pretty beaten-up outside teak (pretty much everywhere). In some areas there are minor cracks, and in others it is just very, very weathered. I would prefer not to varnish it, just to clean it, restore it so that it is protected and to make it look good, and to reduce splinters. Any good recommendations? Also, in a few places on the outside handrails I am missing the wooden screw covers, is there a place to either buy them or make them? Thanks a lot!

I always used boiled linseed oil on the small amounts of teak on my H23.5. A good cleaning, minor sanding, followed by a couple of coats of the oil. It easily lasts about a year in the Louisiana sun and bitterly mild winters.

You can find teak plugs online - just do a search. You tap them in, cut off the excess, then sand flush. Teak is soft and easy to work.
