Just don't have both those mast lights on at the same time.

No? What about if I'm under power and forgot to pull up my anchor? :)

Then I guess you would be a tug pulling something under tow!

On our old boats we had no anchor light. We just hung an electric lantern in the rigging when on anchor.
I do like the windex however primarily because when I have folks who don't sail onboard it's easy for them to keep out of irons because they can see which direction they can't sail.

I've cruised the entire coast, from Port Isabel, Texas, to Annapolis Maryland, including MONTHS in Florida. I hang my anchor light from the backstay. It's a VERY bright LED unit which is no longer available, but I even on two occasions, had the FL Marine Patrol compliment me on the light.

As far as I'm concerned, at the mast head is THE WORST place to put it. I want the drunk in the dinghy at midnight, or the before daylight fisherman to see it, not think it's a star.

COLREGS states- "in the forepart of the vessel, or where it can best be seen-

Excerpt from COLREGS, rule B.30

BUT if the vessel is less than 50 meters in length it may exhibit an all-round white light where it can best be seen instead of the lights foresaid.

On the Windex- many cruising folks call that a "destination finder"" :) I have no use for one.

a light at the top of the mast is NOT a requirement. COLREGS says-"in the forepart of the vessel or where it can best be seen"

I use an anchor light hanging from the back stay. Used to use a kerosene lantern off the headstay ( hung from a halyard)
Been many many miles, in many many sytates, and the Bahamas, and never had a problem witht he LED light from the back stay

I totaly agree with the VHF antenna up there-vhf is line of sight, so the higher the better. I also carry a hand held, for bridge tenders,, lockmasters, etc, so i can talk from the cockpit.

Mac 25 is a very nice boat by the way. Have fun with it

I don't have a windex, and :plus:@Charlie Jones s/v Tehani Regarding LED anchor light conveniently placed. I would burn the light at anchor, mooring, maybe even tied to a dock, since the PWC (jet ski) crowd even runs into docks... Those lights are there to avoid a whole lot worse than a citation. And, switching to LED will dramatically reduce your lighting current requirements. Since you've already committed to the top of mast antenna, I'll just keep my opinion on that to myself.

If you are running wire in your mast, you may want to consider soft foam blocking or several zip ties every few feet along the wire to keep them from clanging at anchor.

Hope you get her squared away soon. Probably missing some good sailing days right now in your neighborhood!
