Teak Refinishing
What Jim said is absolutely true. But, depending on the level of neglect it may be neccesary to remove the wood, sand it down to "smooth" fresh wood and then re-install then oil. Or apply a good finish if you want that glassy look. I just removed and refinished all of my cockpit wood trim. It was in a terrible state of neglect. When I picked the boat up, it actually had a mushroom growing on one of the fuel compartment boards. I sanded the wood until it was nearly perfect, then applied 9 coats of spar polyurethane. The first coat was reduced by about 20%, and the last coat was reduced by about 30%. Each coat was wet sanded with 220 until smooth. The last coat being reduced so much helps really smooth everything out, and reduces the amoutnt of wet sanding necessary for a great finish. Now, I'll tell you... I've seen Jim's woodwork and it is absolutely inspiring! Glassy and Wet looking!Tim
