Well, finally down to the bulkheads on my 22. My question, is it better to step the mast so that the bulkheads can be removed and refinished or just refinish in place. Any tips or advice from others with the same problem.

Refinishing bulkheads

You'll have no problems removing the port bulkhead for refinishing, but, the starboard bulkhead requires that you get the compression post moved out of the way first which does require that you bring your mast down. When I redid my own, I made new bulkheads out of marine plywood then laminated them with a woodgrain formica laminate, then sealed the edges with west system epoxy making them pretty much moisture proof and EXTREMELY durable. BTW, you can do remove and replace the starboard bulkhead without removing the compression post and unstepping the mast. However, you'd have to cut it out and put it back in 2 pieces making a horizontal seam somewhere just above the level of the cabin seats.
