Just refinished my interior and I think the varnish used there would make the sole slippery when wet. The last thing I want is somebody to slip and fall and get blood all over my new varnish. What does everybody use on the soles?

Haven't used it yet, but Ultimate Sole is popular

Easy, I haven't used this product yet but it gets good reviews from the people who answer this question on the forum from time to time:

Had the same problem

My sole was very slippery, after I varnished it.I had to put a rug at the base of the stairs. Bought the Ultimate Sole at the Chicago Boat Show. Hope it works.

I like Ulti...

mate sole. Went on ez. I used 3 coats, and is sticky. How? I have no idea, but it works. I can leave my cloth rugs down now when I sail. Marc

They use/used Daly's ProFin for the decks. I'm not too sure how non-slip it really is. Also, check out their web site. www.dalyspaint.com

I went non-marine

Used the Professional Varathane from Home Depot @ $11.50, satin finish. Really like the non-slip aspect. It feels soft on your feet. I'm sure the Ultimate Sole is as good if not better but Varathane is made for hardwood floors. Really strong surface. I used 3-5 coats from bare wood. 3 was not enough and 5 was one to many. Also Westsystems all the bottoms - no more moisture from underneath.

Sole

Sounds as if Ultimate Sole is the choice. However, I'm looking to do it now. Mark...went to my Home Depot and could only find Minwax, no other brands. Is that what you used, a Varathane made by Minwax?

Varathane was the Brand -

No - not min-wax. HD carries two grades of Varathane - which I think is also the Brand Name. The Professional is in a Black and Silver can.
