Anybody have any ideas on what to use when refinishing the cabin sole? I have the typical Hunter teak-n-holly on my H31, and I need to apply a maintenance coat. There is a great article in the pictorial forums on this website, but it says to use "Profin". I can't find "Profin" anywhere. The varnishes at west Marine are about twice the price of the 'floor varnishes' (polyurethane) and 'exterior varnish' (urethane with UV filter) at the local hardwares.

Oil for the Sole is Good for the Soul
John, I don't like the idea of an impenatrable surface on the teak/holly sole. What I do is once a year during the winter, I take teak oil and brush it on nice and thick all over the sole, and then let it soak in for a week. The result restores the color, replenishes the oil, smells nice, and looks great, too. Seems to me that if you use any kind of a varnish, you will end up with a mainenance headache, you'll create a barrier preventing future oiling, and over time will get discoloring. Since it isn't exposed to the elements, you don't need UV and rain protection, and since you walk on it, you don't want a high gloss which will be slippery and will show scuffs right away. IMHO, a generous oiling once a year is the ideal solution.

Teak oil is working great for us. Needs it again but it has been 2 years and I have a toddler (need I say more?). Doug
