Hi all -- I finally have removed about 30 years of teak oil from my cabin sole using ZEP citrus degreaser from Home Depot that worked pretty well. My sole is 1" thick solid teak tongue and groove teak boards. The middle third of the sole consists of 2 removable pieces/hatches. Then, there is one third on either side of this removable area that are solidly screwed down to athwartship sole floors. My question is how should I refinish the sole? If your vote is teak oil, could you please let me know of your experience, including brand name, and if the oil darkened or changed the color of the teak? Has anyone used Ultimate Sole? Would you expect any problems with the wood cupping or warping if the Ultimate Sole were applied only to the top surpfaces of the nonremovable sections? Thank you very much for your advice/response.

Utimate Sole

I used the Ultimate Sole last spring on my sole. High Gloss but not slippery at all. I do not think it would cup yor sole, but a call to the manuf. would not be out of line. They will probably recommend the sealer that goes with the finish coat. Good luck Jeff

Cabin Sole

I replaced all the floors in my 36 Catalina this spring and used Ultimate Cabin Sole. They make a sealer that I would recommend. I applied two coats to un-finished teak and holly laminate plywood then 4 coats of their hi-gloss finish. I wet sanded after the second coat of sealer and second coat of finish. The floors look WOW!. As Jeff said, call them, they will talk with you about your specific useage and make suggestions on the use of their products. In fact, I used their sealer and brightwork finish on my exterior teak after I stripping it down to bare wood. I used the same application and again WOW!
