I would like to refinish the interior laminated woodwork in by c 27. I have been using Liquid Gold on it, but it dries up very quickly. I would like to have a somewhat glossy finish that might last at least 3 months or so. I don't want to varnish. Has anyone applied Cetol or Teak Oil to the plastic laminate. Thanks.

Good question....

...I have used regular furniture spray wax, lemon oil, orange glow, walnut oil, .. but it still looks a little weak. The issue is that the existing real teak trim makes the fake teak laminated areas look, well, uh, fake! I don't think there is a product out there that can change that disparity. What I see on newer production boats is real teak trim with fabric or poly covered panels. I have contemplated covering my laminated bulkhead panels with the same material used on the liner, then refininishing the table and galley countertop with a high quality veneer/formica trimmed with teak moulding. The Cetol solution might be promising, but I'm afraid it can't mask the fundamental quality of the laminate. Give it a try in a hidden area. Whatever you do I would be interested in seeing the result.

Laminate teak over formica

I had the same problem but never got to using a teak laminate. It would glue right over the formica and I think you could blend it with the fluch teak ends etc. Would not be easy but a good counter top guy could do it in one day.

Since it's not real wood but a plastic,

don't use products designed for wood and definitely not Cetol. Use a polish that you could use on countertops for instance. Or even a liquid car polish. Let us know what happens. Good luck!
