My deck handholds on my 1980 H27 need some refinshing. I do not want to strip them down to bare wood and refinish them. Is there an easier way?

Prep work is

part of any resurfacing job. Most finishes require sandind to bare wood if changing a product. Such as using "Armada" on a surface that had been varnished with another product. Most products, once initially applied, do not need to be stripped to touch up with the same product. Usually light sanding and a wipe with acetone. It isn't the most enjoyable job but putting TLC into your boat will bring your souls closer together. -Doug S/V Brenda Gail

Yes there is.

Chris: There is a way to do away with refinishing them permanetly. Replace them with stainless steel ones. This is exactly what I did and have never regreted it.

Teak cleaners

I have had good success with the 2 part teak cleaners. You need to be very careful and hose down liberally and regularly. Suggest it gets done in the spring before you do anything else to the hull and deck as they have a tendency to show streaks if not washed off immediately. Then a light sending to close down the pores of the wood. I have been very happy with Cetol. Several coats provided a nice golden hue and lasted several years. Good Luck.

Cetol for me too!

Sanding and Cetol worked great for my H-27 also. Cetol gives it a nice look and strong too!
