I have been researching in the forums for information on refinishing my cabin floor, which is teak and holly. I have pretty much decided on how to accomplish this with stripping compound, sanding and refinishing. But I read in one of the threads where you can remove your flooring without taking out your cabinets, am also assuming seatee and dinnette area seating as well. Question: Is this true??
We have a 87 Hunter 31 and the floor is showing signs of fading and wear. Some curling going on by the counter area just under the companionway where I think water gets in durning a hard rain. I would like to take the floor up and see what condition the back side is, but have a long list of things to do over the winter and this would make it longer. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Fair winds gents.

Not sure about the 31 but the floors of my 34 cannot be taken out without removing the settees and the cabinets. Be very careful with the sanding as the teak & holly is a veneer over plywood, only about 1/16" thick. You may sand through it very easily trying to remove a deeper scratch. On my 34 the plywood is 3/4". Good luck

Thanks Claude. The thread I was reading was somewhat confusing. That prompted my question. It doesn't look like you can take the entire floor up without removing the cabinets and seatee area on both sides of our Hunter 31. In general the floor is in good shape. The underside of the floor is unknown. All I plan to do is rough sand with 180 or 220, then put a durable coat of polyurthane on to brighten it up. Not concerned with scratches and dings. Gives the boat some "Charm". Only thing I am concerned about now is over the years the sun has bleached out some areas of the floor. So, am considering spreading some teak oil down before sealing it up to make the color seem more uniform. ;)

Pics look great gr 8. Called local wood shop, and the teak veneer is $184.95 for a 4 x 8 pc. I think ours is in good enough shape to just recoat. But for future information, what are you using in the pics? Looks like you are making your own from veneer plywood. Thanks again for the pics.
