Are the "Reference Articles" by Peggy Hall still available? I cannot seem to find them.

Head Mistress Reference Library is gone

Under the terms of the contract with the publisher of my book, none of the material in can be published "in whole or in part" elsewhere. Since the library was the basis for several chapters that meant it had to come down. That doesn't mean that I can't answer questions or provide assistance, it only means I have to type a lot more to do it. What were you looking for in the library?

General Guidelines

Peggy I am in the process of planning a rebuild of the holding tank system in my H25.5. I just wanted to review your guidelines for head installation to ensure the best possible system. My current issue is trying the reroute the hoses to eliminate any low areas where sewage will sit in the hose. I will be in contact with you when further question arise. Mark Sanford

Guidelines

Hose from the toilet to the tank shouldn't be much more than about 6' long. V-berth is the best tank location unless it means the hose will be too long. Spec the inlet (hose from the head) and vent fittings toward the centerline of the boat, away from the hull to prevent tank contents from flowing back toward the head and spills out the vent when heeled. If possible (1.5" elbow needs at least 5" clearance above the tank, 1" vent needs at least 3"), spec all the fittings on the the top of the tank, with a pick-up tube inside the tank on the pumpout fitting. Go to the link below (so much of the other info in it is out of date that my publisher let me leave that one up), scroll down to the Odor Control section for more details. Search the archives here for previous discussions.
