Catalina 30 long beach
I am presently refurbishing my 1981 catalina 30.
I am now running all new lines and have hit a problem, I have all the hardware on board and my questiuons are as follows:
1) What size line do I use for all reefing lines?
2) What is the length of both the forward and aft lines?
3) There is a clet on the boom for the aft reefing line, but presently the topping lift is on it, so do imove the topping lift, and if so where, or do I install another clet?

Thanks all for your assisaance.

On my 85: the topping lift stays on the boom cleat.
For the reefing I added a twisted shackle and small swivel block to the underside of the boom- at the mast, then another block at the base of the mast, then to the deck organizer on the port side ( mine had an empty roller) then back through the leverlock thing in the cockpit. If you don't want to buy blocks, I used to cleat the reef to the one on the mast port side. I think the reefing lines are 7/16 but not sure. There is a manual available online someplace (stu knows) with lengths and diameters. We reef everytime we lower the sails (at end of day) so there are no surprises when we round the breakwall and hit the wind (spills beers) then let out the reef in a few minutes. It is so nice with the Catalinas, having all lines run to the cockpit.
Good luck, Dean

One more thing

I found this diagram for the full reefing at cockpit in a Harken catalog. Pick one up at West Marine, there is alot of info in them.
