Last year was my first year sailing and the 192 and I really liked each other. When putting in the reef point, I found that the boom really sagged into the cockpit with the absence of a topping lift. After I put in the reef, what could I do to keep the boom at the same level it is with the main fully raised? What did I miss? Thanks for any input. John Dameron Lake ST. Louis MO

reefing

there should be a grommet along leech of sail even with reef point along the luff that you tie off the sail to the boom making the main smaller and keeping the main sail shape..

Also check the halyard and downhaul

Bruce is correct. You need to tie down the leech. There are also ties in the middle of sail to tie down a new foot to the reefed sail. However, be careful to not tie too hard because it could put too much load on those grommets and possebly tear the sail. I have a 1986 192 that I bought last year. I remember either having to harden up the halyard or the down haul to get the luff from luffing after reefing. I will have to pay attention this spring and write again.
