I need some direction in running the reef lines for my '84 27, standard rig with a single reef. Is it individual lines for the luff the leech, 1 per? Can I leave the reef lines in when not in use? I have the original owners manue butit shows a 2 reef configuration and it's not very clear where the lines run. Please advise. Thanks

Depends...

You said you have an '84. That means that PO's (prior owners) have had over 20 years to customize the rig to what THEY like (or need) to have. And we all have our (differing) preferences. So giving you advice without more info on your setup is like shooting in the dark. That said, some thoughts: 1. Most likely (though not necessarily), yes it is one reef line for the luff and one for the leech for each set of reef points. However, you might have "single line reefing" (as I do), where there is one line that controls both the luff and leach for each set of reef points. 2. Yes, (again normally), you can leave the reef linese rigged all the time, if you don't mind them flopping around when not in use. 3. If your manual shows 2 reefs, and you only have one, then you might have a boat that's been modified from what came from the factory. This could be as simple as replacing the original mainsail (which apparently had 2 reefs) with a new one with one reef. Or a PO might have totally re-rigged the thing. Or the original owner ordered it from the factory with one reef. Post some more info (or pictures) on your setup, and maybe we can offer more assistance...

Thanks

Thank you for the response. I'll take a few pic's and post them. I'd be interested in your modification that allows for a single line controling both the luff and leech reefs.
