Hi: I wondered if one of you old salts on the 40.5 could tell me the turn by turn rigging of one of the two reef lines. I assume that one is the same as the other on the opposite side of the sail. In particular...I purchased two blocks and attached one to each of the reef points on the mast end of the main. I then reeved the reefing line through the block and back theough THE BOTTOM of the boom and back to the stern and through the appropriate reef cringle. Is that correct?

Sorry, Steve...

...You may need a shuttle within the boom for each reefing line. This will help draw both ends of the reef in the main down to the boom. I am currently in the process of analyzing what I equipment I will need to add the second reef. Contact me and I can send you a sketch of how the lines should be rigged. I am away for the weekend, but will be returning Monday evening.

Thanks Paul

Thanks Paul. The broker was not able to help with this and the PO had moved to Florida. I have two reefing lines and two sets of points. Each is run through its own block and tackle at the base of the boom. From there I ran the lines to each respective reef d ring on the sail and back down to the bottom of the boom and aft to rise through the reef cringle and return to the sliding cleats at the bottom of the boom. The problem area as I see it as I may need to bring the line from the forward sail attachment through the opening at the top of the boom instaed of the bottom as I now have it. I have three sets of pulleys in the boom for the outhaul and two reef lines.
