We have a 45cc and learned in heavy winds to not point directly into the wind. Turn off till your arrow in the windex is at about 20 degrees, want to keep just a little wind in the sail so it doesn't flog and whip around. If it get over 25 knots we actually do the same and let the travler out. We have never had a problem doing it this way and it comes in quite smooth. Always keep just enough wind in the sail to keep it from whipping.
