Helllo All:

Just wondering if anyone knows offhand what the reduction in sail area is when the factory sail is reefed to the second reef point?

I would get my sail out and measure it but there's about a foot of snow down!

Cheers,

Chris

When I got my boat there was no factory second reef. One nasty trip just after I bought her and when I looked below, I saw the admiral on the cabin sole with her feet braced on the port side next to the table. It was then I decided I needed a second reef. Had a local sailmaker (Baxter sails) install it. It is deep enough to keep me upright when it is blowing. It is just above the first spreader.

When out sailing this weekend and measured the reef points. The factory first reef is 5' deep, and the second is 6' deep. Based on 0.5*P*E full main area is 242 sq. ft. The first reef is about 80%, the second about 60% (assumes reduction of 1' along the foot for each reef).
