Um, that trailer pretty much spoils 9/10's of the whole movie. Looks like a good flick tho. Might want to give a spoiler alert on that trailer.

Um, the title of the movie pretty much gives it all away! Just sayin'.

Can't wait! its the first movie in a long time that I am interested in, and I love Redford. The idea that there is so little dialog is really appealing.

Hmm, so THAT'S what made "Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid" so great. Remember when they jumped? "Oh, sh*t!!! (I can't swim...)" :):):)

Definitely NOT taking my wife to see this one!!! She already has a psychosis, fear of running into a sea container on the open water... This one may ruin my plans of cruising through retirement before I even retire!! I'm just getting her over the idea that there are no crazed, homicidal maniacs on sinking boats out there like in Dead Calm... Sam Sheppard movie.

The movie ain't out yet but they give it a 4 Star rating. How does that work? I wonder how much it is about sailing and how much it is about a castaway?

Stu, BC&SK was a great movie for so many reasons, most to do with those handsome faces and great Redford hair. The jump scene was classic. loved that movie. Redford has gotten more and more appealing in his looks and even more in his movie choices and to Benny......I think we will see more sailing influence than castaway .. just because who it is. I probably will alienate a few when I say I did not like Tom Hanks and Castaway at all. No attention to detail and that did it for me.....I don't expect to see that kind of thing with Robert Redford involved.
High Hopes here!:D

Redford fan?

LuzSD, you sound like a Redford fan ... I'll tell you one of my favorites is Downhill Racer. Very little dialog in that movie, but it captures the essence of ski racing in that era (made in 1969) about as well as can be done. It's notable that while most don't get it and consequently it doesn't get much critical acclaim, ski racers hold the film in the highest regard because it is so true to the sport. The ending couldn't be better. Chappellet wins the race only after a younger athlete crashes near the finish. While everybody around him is celebrating, Chappellet knows that the younger racer is faster, and Chappellet's moment of glory is just fleeting, possibly only until the next event. I have to admit, while I was 14 when I saw that movie and a kid growing up in the flatlands of the Midwest, I became obsessed with ski racing and couldn't rest until I got involved. I was influenced by Jean Claude Killy in the 1968 Olympics and that movie to the point where I had never even seen a ski slope until 1970, but I found a way to get into ski racing while in college and beyond.

I also liked Electric Horseman. I love the scene when he throws Jane Fonda's suitcase in the pond ... and the end where he is hitch-hiking down a lonely western road, with a Willie Nelson song playing in the background.

Sue's favorite (one of them anyway) Redman film is An Unfinished Life. I have to admit, I like many Lasse Hallstrom films.

Scott, you look for much the same in films as I do ... sadly not many interest me these days. I love what you say about Downhill Racer.. though I hardly remember it... but I understand what you describe. I love a film that pays a lot of attention to detail and I expect this film to do that. You have me researching back about An Unfinished Life.......Seems familiar but I will now make an effort to find it. We need to start a new thread about favorite films and why.

Just from watching the trailer;
The sea is calm and yet a floating container punches through the hull. With a calm sea wouldn't the container just sort of bump off the boat?????

Again the sea is calm as he goes up the mast, this is the middle of the ocean, wouldn't there be a swell out there even on a calm day......not to mention there is a HUGE storm approaching, don't ya think there might be a swell which BTY might make going up the mast a tad more of a challenge???

He’s tightening his VHF connector with a wrench. Those connectors are supposed to be hand tightened. I used a pair of pliers on mine once and the connector broke.

He acts like it's the first time he sees the storm up there. Don't ya think you'd see that coming from the deck. How about weather reports?

I like a movie with detail, and I'm sure I will enjoy this flick, however Hollywood has a tendency to "skip" the realistic detail.

All good points AXEL, but I'll be looking forward to it just the same. LuzSD, An Unfinished Life has J Lo, Morgan Freeman in it and Josh Lucas. We see all Josh Lucas films on account of my wife ... but I'll have to admit that I like every movie I've seen with Josh Lucas in it. I'll also admit that I REALLY liked J Lo in this one as well. There's one scene in the movie where Morgan Freeman yells over to Robert Redford ... "How 'bout if I come over there and put my boot up your ass!" It's perfect ...

If you haven't seen Hide Away with Josh Lucas, you have to see it. James Cromwell fills the bill perfectly as "The Ancient Mariner". "It's all a Grand Traverse, laddie"

I want to see this movie, but so far it looks like a "Cast Away" on a boat instead of an island. I too found it interesting that the container was in calm water. Maybe we are missing an important point, like he was moving along at 20 knots and hit the container.

Didn't the container have a hole and shoes were coming out? If that is the case, the container should have not stayed afloat. Containers have a very tight seal when closed, but once a hole gets in them, they sink like a rock.

Yes, Hollywood flare. I also like the SOS in lieu of MayDay! LOL

Watching the trailor, makes you think of carrying aboard a very large fiberglass repair patch kit when heading out into blue water! Looked survivable.....he could have packed the hole with everything inside that floating container.................and here I thought he got hit by a whale, which made more sense then a lost container.

and whats with the "SOS"?!

I'm not a super experienced sailor, but there just seems like so much was off with it.
I'm reading Blue Water, by Bob Griffith, and he goes into emergencies like this at length.
Didn't this guy have a spare sail he could have mated with that epoxy to effect a repair?
What about removing sections of his interior to mate with sail/epoxy/lines to plug that hole (which was WAY above the waterline)?
If the boat was seaworthy enough to weather a storm, why did it go down after?
Didn't he have an ERIB?
What about a handheld VHF to hail the passing ship?
It just seems like he went into some kind of panic mode after the accident and ended up giving up.
After all I've read about maritime disasters it seems that, based on what the trailer shows, he's doing everything wrong.
Isn't the best plan to stay with the boat until you're stepping up into the liferaft?

Sorry, I have no suspension if disbelief. LoL
