Franklin, Good point!

I have problems with the ladder climbing here. I shouldn't be doing it elsewhere. r.w.landau

Franklin, I expected them to use industrial

grade fenders.

Well said, MKing

If we were all exactly the same then the world would be a dull place indeed. Whether you live in the woods and drive a Lotus or live in New York and drive a beater pick up truck is no measure of the human you are. All of the postings poking fun at folks who march to a different beat are not good natured and we all know it. Some are just plain mean-spirited and that is a shame. For those who recognize the truly funny ones: Good for you. For those who believe they hold some sort of social/economic high-ground because they are "main stream" in their life style; well, they need to re-evaluate their relationship with the rest of the human race. My two cents.

Guys chill out..

A little good natured humor is always fun. No one is saying these red necks don't have right to do what they are doing or that they should not be allowed to. We are just amused at the craft some people are willing to set out in. It's just funny like as in HA HA not as in funny these people are losers. The original post referenced a country song many so called "red necks" probably like. Hell I am a red neck and I think this sh$t is very funny. You people need to lighten up! I'm not ofended and I guarantee I'm more of a red neck than the most of you. Chill out and get a life~

There is a song

called the Red Neck Yacht Club and it is very popular now. I know because I'm a bit of a red neck myself. Just keep it fun and not judgmental. Personally, I bet I'd have a lot of fun with the owner of that party barge!

Pontoon boat

doods, It's a pontoon boat. The only thing a pontoon boat needs to do is float. This guy is a genius. He has used his engineering and fabrication talents to construct a functional and fun vessel for very little cost. A new pontoon boat is about $20,000. Who's the smart one here?

Beer

$20,000 get you 10+ years supply of at least a six pack a day every day. That guy got the right solution.

Franklin is it "loosers" or is it "losers" ;)

'cos if its loosers ....well then we 'oughta' tighten something up .....LOL Nobody's putting them down ....quite the contrary. We can have fun and laugh with these folks at down-home ingenuity. If you ever watch "Blue Collar Comedy" they make fun of things like this all the time Like I said looks like these guys have more fun and enjoyment those most "Yoties". I think MKing got it right. Now I gotta go pick the lead BB outa my teeth after takin a bite of the admirals Rabbit stew. (Damn she usedta clean the varmit better in the ole days)

I must be a redneck

Seriously, I was thinking a $250 plastic kayak with a little electric outboard would make a neat dingy. Think, no gas, no pull start so the admrial can go alone, impossible to swamp, toss it on deck with 1 hand after pulling the battery (that can serve as a backup starting battery). Where's the drawback other than laughing dockhands? That guys lawnchair is inspirational!

Doug - Don't you think dragging that battery around would be more hassel than a small outboard? A typical battery is probably as heavy than a small OB. Cheaper for sure, though.

Pontoon Boat?

Look at the reg plate. So it must qualify as a "viable" boat!...smart people, there!

Back in the mid 70's

on a lake in South Carolina (Lake Wateree) a club held an annual fund raiser called the "Bath Tub Regatta". Any thing that had a bath tub (cast iron or fiber glass or plastic) making the primary displacement qualified for entry. Propulsion was open to any thing- sail, paddles, oars, trolling motors, outboards, and I think I recall an inboard. Many entries never left the starting line; some never even made the start, and the progress over the course was sheer chaos, but at the end of the day EVERYONE involved had fun on the water. This is the point of the original post. Steve Kamp

Have a great day!

No shaft packing

No shaft packing required. Now that's direct drive! They also employ the same plastic 50gal drum pontoon technology as the builder in New Hampshire. They must have researched the same blog.

OK, OK, everyone step back

We've drifted a bit here from creative low-cost yachting to slurs about our low-income brethren in the rural south. Let's be careful, please.
