I have a 2002 473 with a Jabsco PAR 31610-0092 bilge pump that consistently DOES NOT work. I've tried replacing the pump and the diaphragm but no joy. It seems as though the downstream head pressure is too great for this pump and that the bilge needs to be re-plumbed. Anyone else have this problem? I've just been using the manual pump but i'd like to have the automatic pump available if needed!

Is there a y-valve to use the bilge pump as the shower drain pump? Maybe it's on "shower"?

No Y-valve. I've had the boat for 4 years and it works for a while then stops. If i blow out the downstream line, it seems to work better for a short time. I've blown it out with air (by mouth and foot pump) and with water. It's consistently hard to blow out though and it's almost 20' from the pump to the thru hull.

I'm thinking that I need a more powerful pump...

I assume you've looked for kinks or partial kinks in the discharge line. I had one on my 331's discharge that would cause my pump to overheat. and shutdown If you remove the discharge line and have good flow and pressure, the easiest solution may be to just install a new discharge line to the through-hull. You may just have debris or growth in the line that replug the line.
