Some weeks ago I dropped my evinrude 3hp into the waters of Tampabay in a dumb docking maneuver. Two weeks later I was lucky to meet some divers who got it back up for me. I cleaned it up, put it in a bucket with fresh water for 2 days and now took it appart, cleaned the carburator and tried to clean the cylinders with lots of marvel mistery oil thru the spark lugs threads. The whole Motor saw a lot of W40 as well. Looks like new now. I am now turning the engine since a week by hand and everything seems to be moving smooth. My question is: Is there anything else I need to think of before I will try to fire it up ? Any experiance with sunken outboards in this forum ? Thanks siggi

Stupid Outboard Tricks

I did the same dumb thing with a brand new Merc 3hp....dropped it off the back of my dinghy, in front of a crowd ! Cleaned out the carb / fuel tank/ & cylinders, sprayed the engine down with Boeshield. I put a fresh fuel mix in, and she ran great for 6 years. From then on, I tied a line from the motor,to the boat...just in case. I wish I had kept it, darn good little motor. Good luck with it. Cheers, Al

Do you have a spark?

If so, pump in some fuel and go for it. You have nothing to lose. Getting it running is the very best thing you can do at this point. It would have been better to start it as soon as the water was blown out and the engine fogged. Delay only can cause problems. Heat it up. Good luck and let us know.

Coil

I dropped one in years back and the electrical system became a problem - no spark - check the coil.
